Concentration #2

Consciousness of the ability to effect life outside of oneself comes with a keen pressure to actively discern between wisdom and folly. This piece both literally and figuratively deals with the idea that to be awake to our abilities is to be perpetually tormented by the inextricable human condition of imperfection. Though imperfection is woven into our DNA, our tendency to reject this inevitable element of failure pushes against our drive to remain conscious and to continue to reach for fulfillment of our true potential. With equal and opposite force, this sometimes cumbersome awareness combats the desire to give up on ourselves and our abilities. Consciousness is the only means by which we as human beings can accomplish a single step in the direction of hope for our kind. Thus, we are faced with a dilemma. Do we close our eyes and ignore this power for the sake of maintaining ignorant bliss? Or do we force ourselves to hold them open, see the surrounding world for what it is, and contemplate the effect of each and every action for the sake of the greater good?
